O Eternal and Everlasting God - SATB

Audio

  • O Eternal and Everlasting God

O Eternal and Everlasting God is a hymn with text adapted from "George Washington's Prayer Journal: Monday Morning Prayer," which is attributed to George Washington and found among his possessions at the time of his death. To the composer, it is irrelevant if George Washington wrote the prayer himself, or simply read the prayer; it was still important to him.

The setting is a standard 3-verse hymn, and works very well a cappella or with piano or organ accompaniment. One performance suggestion would be to have four parts on verse one, SA on verse two until ALL on chorus, and men in unison melody on verse three until chorus (or a combination of unison and added tenor line where appropriate).

A touching hymn with historical interest and modern relevance. Add this gem to your choir's repertoire today

    O eternal and everlasting God,
    Direct my thoughts unto thee.
Wash my sins in the blood of the Lamb,
The immaculate blood of the Lamb.

Daily frame me more, frame me more
In the likeness of Thy Son, Jesus Christ.

    O eternal and everlasting God,
    Accept my humble praises.
Purge my heart that I may freely serve,
That I may with more liberty serve Thee.

Daily frame me more, frame me more
In the likeness of Thy Son, Jesus Christ.

    O eternal and everlasting God,
    Increase my faith before Thee.
Teach me how to live in Thy ways,
How to keep me from spiritual slumber.

Daily frame me more, frame me more
In the likeness of Thy Son, Jesus Christ.
