Music and lyrics: Cathy Neff (ASCAP)
Once in every life some rain is going to fall;
We take the broken pieces and go on.
But there's one who loves us still;
Seek His face and do His will,
And He'll hold us all until we're through the rain.
*After the rain, after the pain,
When you feel like you can finally breathe again,
You will know it's times like these
That make you who you're going to be,
And you'll know that there is sun
After the rain.
Tears may come and go, and years may come and go,
But pieces of a broken heart will mend.
It's a time for you and me
To show just what we do believe;
To hope in Him who sends the earth the rain. *
Some caught in the rain they just get angry.
Some caught in the rain they lose their way.
Look to Him, your bright and shining beacon.
Look to Him and He'll show you the way. *

"The 13th Article of Faith" is one of 13 statements of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as set forth by the prophet, Joseph Smith. This setting can be used for SSA, or solo voice.
Text: Joseph Smith, Jr.
Music: Cathy Neff (ASCAP)
We believe in being honest.
We believe in being true,
Chaste, benevolent and virtuous,
And in doing good to all men.
Indeed we may say,
May say that we follow
The admonition of Paul:
We believe all things.
We hope all things.
We have endured many things,
And hope to be able to endure all things.
*We believe.
Yes, we believe!
We do believe.
If there is anything virtuous,
Lovely or of good report
Or praiseworthy,
We seek after these things.*

A Psalm of Life is a setting of the beloved Longfellow poem of the same name, arranged for SATB choir and piano. The music is taken from the hymn melody by Philip Paul Bliss which is used for the well known hymn favorites, Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy and Should You Feel Inclined to Censure. Cathy Neff's arrangement utilizes a transition into the minor key for the more somber middle verses, which provides for a joyous resolution at the end. An mp3 practice track is available.

Music: Philip Paul Bliss; arranged by Cathy Neff
(WHAT THE HEART OF THE YOUNG MAN SAID TO THE PSALMIST)
Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.
Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.
Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.
In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!
Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act, act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o'erhead!
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;
Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

Amazing Grace is a beloved hymn of hope, strength, faith, and the gift of God's amazing grace. This arrangement is for an a cappella SATB choir, but a piano can easily be added on the vocal parts as needed. The piece starts in unison, as if in the Negro Spiritual tradition. The second verse is in two parts, the third in three, the fourth in four, and a soprano divisi even gives us the touch of five part harmony at times. Each verse is a different feel and treatment of the original words by John Newton. The harmony progresses until there is a rich colorful blend of harmonies by the last verse. The voice leadings and part-writing are intelligent and intuitive to make the reading of this piece as seamless as possible for your choir. This is a must have for your choir's a cappella repertoire.
*Also available: a shorter, simplified version of this arrangement for SSA or TTB based on the first three verses only of the SATB version. (See more purchase options below) See full lyrics under Lyrics tab.
Text: John Newton*
Music: Traditional, arr. Cathy Neff (ASCAP)
Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev'd;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ'd!
Thro' many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promis'd good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call'd me here below,
Will be forever mine.

*NOTE: The lyrics used in this arrangement are John Newton's original lyrics to "Amazing Grace." Another popular verse, added later by someone else, is not included in this arrangement. The verse that is not included is:
When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Then when we've first begun.
