Video: Introduction to "The Ministry of Christ" by Cathy Neff
"What exactly is The Ministry of Christ?" This is what my friends have been asking, so I'd thought I'd answer here. It's a set of pieces on the life of Christ meant to be performed in concert with choir, soloists, strings, brass, and piano.
"Then it's an oratorio?" No, because that title belongs to Handel's "Messiah," and I can't use that. I can't use "song cycle" or "ring cycle" or any other nomenclature for the same reason. This piece is unique. That's why I call it a "treasury" - a collection of pieces on one topic, and in this case, one in which a new treasure is found when turning over every piece.
"What makes it unique?" I don't know of too many works of 17-pieces on the life of Christ with Biblical text that is so accessible to both classical and contemporary audiences. I guess that makes it unique.
"So, why are you doing a Kickstarter?" I can't afford to record this album on my own, and it's really important. I need a recording of this work so that people who don't happen to be near a performance of the work can still benefit from its message of hope. I need a recording. A good recording. That's where Kickstarter and people like you comes in.
"What are the songs like?" To best answer that question, I'll just let you listen to some samples. If you like what you hear, we hope you'll want to participate in the Kickstarter. Even a $1 pledge will get you access to our exclusive blog and really help us out. Thanks!
